Temperature question - Is this normal?

Well they both closed up when I dumped the water out of the pot so it doesn't seem to stay open. It is possible that it partially opened quicker - it was hard to see through the boiling water. In any case, it made a big difference in warm up time. I hit normal operating temp by the time I reached the train station - I have not done that yet this year with the old thermostat.

More that I think about it I feel that AutoZone stuff is junk for the most part.

All that matters is that it helped :) Do you run the heater blower before the truck is warmed up on the temp gauge?

I was doing that then people said that's why it took so long to heat up so I would turn it off until it got above "C" and there was actually heat.

Today it was blasting heat after 10 minutes of running with the heater on. On the ride back from the train station this week I'll try both ways and see what the difference is. With my old T-stat it still did not get the temp up as quick as it should.

Tonight I warmed the X for two minutes and drove without the heat on. About 1/2 way it in the commute of 1 1/2 miles it had reached normal temp at 35 degrees F. Problem sovled

The blower motor will really cool down the coolant since the ehater coor bypasses the t stat. Which is why turning on the heat will normall bring a slightly overheated motor back into the acceptable range.
