I need both rear axle bearings and seals replaced, plus the front pinion seal replaced on my 02.

The dealer quoted me $765.00 parts and labor. How's this sound to you?

For what it's worth, there's 84,000 miles on it.

Might be a little steep. I'd check with a couple other reputable independent repair shops and compare notes.

laugh out loud!!!!!!!!! i'd pay no more 500 parts and labor...check ebay for the parts then take them to some one else for a cheaper labor quote...

How many restaurants will cook eggs and bacon that you bring in to them?

I usually refuse to install a customer's parts.

Shops have a right to make money, on both the labor and parts. Outlandish markups are not a good way of gaining repeat business though.

seriously though dude ^^ almost 800 for that is a little non sense and btw plenty of shops around here install your parts that you bring...they don't care as long as they get there labor besides the person working on the vehicle didn't buy the parts in the first place they just care more about the labor...

bearings and seals from ebay shouldn't be more than 150-200 max...for everything you need...seriously though the difference in that is $565 in labor i call bs on that shop...dump them and find someone else

isn't when the store orders from a catalog...would really be the same as a customer bringing in parts cause it wasn't even in the storefront to begin with...

Thats about normal for a dealer, you have to remember that the dealer part will be more expensive than 3rd party and don't forget that the dealership goes by the book when it comes to time for the labor. If the service book calls for 5 hours, they'll charge you 5 hours plus the cost of the parts at retail price. You figure a axle bearing is about $34 retail from the dealer vs probably $20 or less and pinion seal probably being around $17-20 or so retail from the dealer.

I called the other Ford dealer near me and they quoted me the same price.

take it to a shop stop calling the dealerships they do nothing but mangle you for all your worth...call midas if you have one they are good and fairly cheap with labor compared to dealer prices i just got a whole front brake job from there...fluid, resurface rotors, new pads, new master cylinder parts and labor all for 400 that would have easily been 600 or 700 dollars at my ford dealership...just a thought

Are the axle bearings like those on the Gen II's? Maybe those are the assembly style- those aren't $35... I don't know- just asking. If it is, figure $200 each at least for Dealer parts, plus the $50 pinion seal. Plus 5 hours labor at $75 an hour... You're right about there with parts, labor, and environmental.

No shops around here will use parts you bring in, either. One, they make their money on parts, and two, they can't know where they came from, if they're good, and the liability issues prevent it here.
