Im not saying its not a good amp, but you have to look at more than just power numbers. There are other factors that make up a good amp suah as THD(Total harmonic distortion), S/N ratio (Signal to Noise ratio, basically the ratio of amplifier switching noise to music), and slew rate(the amplifiers ability to react to sudden musical peaks). If you just want bump that rattles everything, it will work fine. But if you care about the quality of bass, you may want to look elsewhere. That 600watt Sony, is really only about 300watts RMS at 2ohms. Anytime you go lower than the amplifiers standard resistance rating (most cases 4 ohms) the amplifier starts using more current, which produces more heat. This causes the amplifier to be less efficient, produce more distortion and heat up more quickly. Heat is the #1 killer of amplifiers. And distortion(caused by amplifier clipping i.e not enough power) is the #1 killer of speakers and subwoofers. Generally subwoofers are more understanding, and can handle anything up to about 1% THD before they start sounding too much like poo. But they still dont sound as good as the could with a quality amplifier, putting out a reasonable amount of power into a 4ohm load. In other words the Sony will do fine for a while, but if you want good sound quality, and not just SPL you may want to focus on higher name brands. Hope this helps.
