I thought I would seek out some advice from you guys on my next speaker upgrade. Here's my situation. I already have a 10 inch sub and a RF amp powering 250 watts to it so the base is there in my system. I have a Kenwood Excelon up front so that is taken care of. I want to upgrade my door speakers next.

I have a '00 model Kenwood 2X50 amp that is just sitting around and since I have it, I want to use it. I was thinking of hooking it up to my next speaker purchase. Should I put in some new speakers in the back doors and hook the amp up to those or put new speakers in the front and hook up the amp to those?

Wherever I hook up the amp, I am going to need some speakers that can handle about 75 Watts RMS because of the around 20 Watts I get from the HU. What speakers will fit without mods to the doors and will handle this? Have any of you put the Infinity 572.3cfs in your front doors and did they fit well?

One last thing...is it retarded to just amp one set of speakers and should I forget this amp and go out for a good 35 or 50 X 4 amp?

Thanks guy.

I recommend a nice 5 1/4" component set in the front. How about Boston Acoustics? Hook them up to the Kenwood amp and run the rear speakers off of HU.

Good plan Kontrol. I plan on doing the same thing. I will be using my current amp to run a component set up front, and I'm getting a new amp to run my subs. Then the rear door speakers will be run off the HU.

i would definitely amp the front speakers, as opposed to the rear. i used to have some infinity kappas in the front of my old explorer and they sounded great...so great, that im gonna get another set for the fronts of my current explorer :)

Are components tough to install? Where did you mount the tweeter and did you have to get any kits to mount them?

There are mounting plates available to fill the 6x8 openings. You can mount both midrange drivers and tweeters on them. But for better imaging, try installing the tweeters seperately at a higher location...in the doors, pillars, dash, etc.

Good luck :)

I think www.autotoys.com carries some. They carry lots of cool stuff, so it's always worth looking there. If I remember correctly, MB Quart makes those plates also...some retailers might carry them :D

thanks kontrol-trak, im gonna check it out.

if the amp puts out 50 watts RMS, then that's what the speakers will get. the headunit wont be powering them at all.

definately put more power to the front stage speakers.

Will that mean that the back speakers will get more power or will the back speakers still get the same amount?

if you power the fronts with the 50X2 amp, then they will get 50 watts each. if you use the headunit to power the rears, then they will get less power (only about 20 watts).

do what everyone else said, amp the fronts and leave the reaers to the h/u...it will sound great...also, any speaker will sound great amped...it you get scomponents that are 100 watts rms...they will still be 1,000,000 times better than stock or what you have now

You guys are going to have to speak down a little or use some sort of sheep analogies.;) jk bud

Okay guys, I took your suggestions. Today I purchased a set of Infinity 505cs 5.25" components for the front and a set of Infinity 5752cf 5 X 7" for the back. I should have them installed in a few weeks and will let you know how it goes. I am going to have put the amp on the front component speakers. Thanks for the input. I have had some Infinity 6.5"s in an older car and loved them so I decided to go with them again.

Two more questions:

Where did you guys mount your tweeters? In the doors, or did you drill somewhere and mount them?

Where did you put your crossovers? I read that they aren't water proof so putting them in the doors is a very bad idea. Ideas? I might mount them under a seat or something...maybe next to the amp that will be powering them.

Thanks again guys.

i removed the ashtray and mounted my tweeters in it's place. i used black metal speaker grill material and shaped it so it blended with the dash. then i drilled it with a hole saw where i wanted the tweeters. i could've put them in the kicks, but i like this place better.

When I had components in another car, I had the crossovers mounted inside the doors. I think they'll be fine in there.

I've got my cross overs inside the car, below the seatbelt parts in the lower pillar between the front and rear seats
