Does it say dexron/mercon?

What says in the book? Is either "Mercon" or "Mercon V"... Use one that matches.

It says Mercon, not Mercon V.

I'd err on the side of caution when it comes to the Transmission. Don't want that going south on ya.

Do not use dex unless you put a mercon additive in with it, or you will be replacing the trans.

Well I had the shop to flush the transmission and on the receipt it says ''Valvoline DEXRON III/Mercon' for the liquid. I have droven it for about a month already. It is an independent shop, not dealer. Do you believe that they will follow the recommendation from Ford?

The valvolines around your area are pritty knowlageable and will normaly follow the specs.( I used to manage the jiffy lube in Elk river). If you have been driving that long and it is shifting the same or better, chances are they used the correct stuff.

It sounds like they used the "Multi-vehicle" stuff. It won't hurt anything but its not a name brand like going to the dealership. I Guarantee that the fluid you put in there is better than what was in there from the beginning
