Hey Guy's looking for some guidance here on what I think will be my very 1st Ford. I have a 97 Explorer with a 4.0 that I want to by from a friend but before I do I have a few questions. The engine appears to have an ante freeze leak at the rear of the drivers head. He had an issue with a starter and found out that it shorted out because of the antifreeze leak. My question is is this engine savable?
I'm a GM Guy and don't know much about Fords but an engine is an engine and can be fixed with the help of a Ford manual and maybe a couple of good pieces of advice. The vehical has 126k on it which seems like low milage for the engine to be giving up? The owner maintained perfectly Im told that there were two versions of the 4.0? This appears to be a sohc version but how can I be sure? I have read that these engines were suseptable to intake manifold failure too? Also if this is a head hasket how big a job will it be and what's the proper way to do it? I want to add that I believe this engine is an overhead valve engine not sure if this is good or bad? Anyway any info on this HG is appreciated..
Thanks in advance!
