Okay, I already searched for this without much in the way of results... looking to go from 3.55's to 4.10's/4.56's. Have not been able to find anyone who sells ring & pinion sets for the front end. WTF? Also, I can't confirm what model DANA axle is up there in the first place. Best (closest) i can come is a Dana M35 IFS ... possibly reverse rotation as well. I'm ready to do this as I'm now pulling a 20' Correct Craft which weighs in at about 4,000 lbs. boat & trailer. With the 32's I'm in NEED of more power!

No swapping in third gens - only gears offered factory were 3.55's and 3.73's... and I'm not swapping to 3.73's... too little gain for the work involved.

IIRC, the new gen explorers are a dana 30 but I am not sure which rotation they are.

Where are you getting that? I can't find anything on the web related to 2002+ Explorer front axles/ring + pinion.

He is just smart:D

I recently towed about 5,000lbs and with my mods and 3.73's, it wasn't exactly a walk in the park. The ex pulled okay but it felt like I dropped about 4 cylinders and had drum brakes:D

I peeked around to see what I could find but no luck. You definetly need at least 4:10's but I would even go to 4.56 if I was you. You have a good overdrive and should be just fine. Otherwise, might start searching for a used blower setup for a 99-04 mustang GT:burnout:

If anyone still made a kit for the V8 (like the allen kit) I would, but I don't feel like fishing for parts & trying to slap something together... which is why I'm looking for gears instead.

I believe its still the 35 up front just like the older explorer's since it always been 8.8 and dana 35 but as to weather its a reverse cut or not its up in the air.

This is exactly what I was talking about... 8 posts and already 2 different opinions on which axles we have up front. I wonder if Ford even knows?

I know cause I got a service manual. :D Soon as I find it again I will check. Another Reference from Dana

AWDrocks has an allen setup for sale here on the forum. I never even thought about gears in the 3rd gens before, I guess I just assumed that they had 4.10's from the factory and that's why they were getting away with the 33's and 35's.

nope ! lol...

people are dealing with a loss of power for looks or how far off the road they can get...

ive never even heard of a 3rd gen having 4:10's... only 3.73's max with the loss of some power depending on how big peoples tires are...

IIRC the DANA 30 for the 02+ explorers..there is nothing available lower than a 3.73. If your interested I'll check again.

The dana 30 is a super 30 which gives it a little more meat in the pinion and ring gear, I think. The WJ cherokees use a super 30 up front, so long as both are low pinion that may be an option for lower gears.

First gens are TTB these are for IFS...are you sure their not right?

He needs a 30, not a 35. They aren't right..

Looks like a Dana 30 long standard rotation. I've got 4.10 and 4.56 both are $165.00.

Eric's right on awdrocks setup. If I am not mistaken, Macknos made it sound like he was selling his KB setup for and Allen setup?(which would mean awdrocks I assume?)

Anyway, I say 4.56 once you lock onto what axle we have. I would assume your shop of choice that will do the install should be able to figure it out unless you are doing the swap yourself.
