I've been looking into buying a 2door 94 expo sport, now the guy told me it was a v6, but I'm not sure if it's the same 4.0 ohv engine the rangers use or not, please don't tell me it could be a 3.0, I don't want that anemic of an engine

also, how hard is it to swap a 302 into an expo sport

i dont know a ton about explorers...but i do know that it is the 4.0, not a 3.0. I cant tell you what kind of engine it is, but im sure somone will be able to tell you more specifically.

It is the trusty old 4.0 OHV.

The 302 isn't exactly a bolt-in swap. The swap will help if you have a body lift.

Its gotta be the 4.0L. I don't think they make the explorer with anything stronger.

I think you'll find that this engine is a pretty damn good one. Its not the best on power only because they put it into a pretty heavy vehicle. But if you check out most of the posts about the explorer engines-you'll see that most of the engines here have well over 100,000 miles and still going strong.

Mine has 155,000 and it still purrs. I tow about 2,000 lbs with it it doesn't miss a beat.

The Explorer also has the V8 option.

In the 94, the only engine available was the 4.0 OHV V-6 motor. The V8 didn't come along until later. The 4.0 OHV is a pretty good motor. Not a ton of power, but it moves the vehicle adequately unless you have really low gearing (like 3.27's). As was said earlier, a lot of people are well over 100k on the clock with no problems. The oil pump was a weak spot, but you can tell that pretty quick by listening to the motor. Most of the older motors with weak oil pumps have a valve tick.

Sorry, I didn't mean stronger-I meant to say smaller.
