I have a question. I want to be able to get my X (03) up on jack stands so that I can do some work (ie. rotate tires etc.) I can use my jack on the front cross bar to get the front up to get the jack stands under the frame but I am not sure where to jack the rear to get the stands under the frame. The manual says that you should not lift the rear on the diff. so I am at a lost as to where I can jack it from. I was thinking the trailer hitch but not sure.....Does anyone have expreince or know of a good location to jack the back up from??? Thanks for your thoughts!!

I lift them (on a hoist mind you) by the frame in front of the rear wheels. I've never had to jack one up and use stands, but I imagine that I'd do it the same way.

The easy way is to use two jacks on the real axle and then slide your stands in. Mine is a manual, so I even jack it to put it on ramps.

I believe he has a 3rd gen with independant rear suspension.

I would still use two in the rear.

jack on the frame, just infront of the wheels

Well so what you are saying is that I have to have two jacks and four jack stands to make this work. Can't just jack one side then the other it would be off balance. There is not point in the middle in the back from where to jack it up?? :fire:

I am sure you can jack one side and then the other. I just hate doing it that way. I don't like relying on the jack stand to hold onto the other side while I am moving things around on the side I am jacking. I have found that two jacks makes things real easy. I position them so I can pump both handles at the same time and raise either the front or the rear. Then I position the jack stands or ramps under the tires. I can get the truck higher this way too because I don't have to jack higher than the opposite stand to slide the second in (I hope that made sense).

Other than the frame, I don't know where to tell you to jack. I imagine I would probably just lift under the shock mounts, but without seeing it first hand I will default to others that have independent rear suspension. I have it easy with a solid rear axle.

Eeeh. Just place the jack under the gas tank, youll be fine...................

***as I slowly back away from the X.***

Under the gas tank that does not seem safe at all!!?? I guess I will just have to get another jack and do both sides at the same time. Thanks for the replys and if anyone has another idea let me know. Thanks!

I broke down and purchased a floor jack from Harbor Freight Tools that completely solved the problem for me. This heavy duty, 2 1/2 ton, long frame floor jack actually has a maximum lift of almost 32 inches!

I place the jack under the rear so that the jack's saddle centers in the middle of the spare tire and I can lift the entire back end as high as is needed for ANY rear repairs. The axle is free if needed, or you can easily place jack stands there at full extension. And doing a break job while sitting on a regular chair is a real treat for my back!) Works great on the front as well by placing the saddle under the front frame, or lift an entire side.
