Hi Guys,

I am wondering if it is ok / safe to use the hooks on the front of the lower " A " frame ( 96 explorer ) for jack stands .

Thanks,

I use the stands on the U brackets mid way back on the frame.
The A frame crushed easily on my 98 when I started to lower the truck down.

I use to use the body mount up front, but they are crushing, so I figured if these hooks are a lift point for changing a tire that they would be ok for the jack stands.

But I am wondering if they will be ok to support the whole weight of the truck while having a person underneth it, verses just lifting one tire off the ground to change it ...

Yes, they were placed there just for that reason. Good enough to change a tire out or something along those lines.

The torsion bars divide the vehicles weight amongst themselves, with tires on the ground, but using that hook for support, only one LCA bushing (not the torsion bars, as the tires are off the ground) is taking all the weight.

I wouldn't use them for anything long term tho. Better to use the frame itself behind the front tires / behind the bumper, with good jack stands.

I have used them, but if you are doing any front suspension work, it does put a load on the suspension. so just keep that in mind.

I need to do some welding on the Y-pipe where the heat sheild use to be. putting the jack stands behind the wheels does not give me enough room to get under there.

Thanks for the Info...

Anywhere where the suspension ties into the frame is a good place, that is what we have to do if a car has to much rust on the lift points.
