Has anyone actually installed one of these systems in their truck. If so how does it work? Are the results as significant as Jacobs says or is it a bunch of hype?
I installed onr of these on my Explorer. As of right now there have been no gains, in fact the engine will not run. Jacobs said "oops, well it won't work with all 4.0 engines... not yet". They are supposed to be engineering an adapter that plugs into the other adapter so it will work. They haven't sent me one yet so right now I have a $400 blue box installed under my hood that is just along for the ride.
I'm curious. I called Jacob's about a year ago to see if they had a system for it and the guy said no because it was pretty hot in stock form. The only thing he recommended was wires(of course). He told he could sell me a coil if I wanted it but it wasn't necessary. So, why did they make one? Did public inquiry drive them to try and develop a system better than the stock one or what. I had heard the DIS was good before I ever called thembut just wanted to check since I'd had good experiences with them previously.
I've been talking to them for close to two years now about this new ignition system they have. The reason it took so long to engineer is because of one primary reason... The stock ignition is awsome and it is very hard to improve on something that is already great. The only reason I didn't sent the Jacobs system back already is because I got it for far less than the current advertised "introduction" price of $400. They assured me that they will get it working and that the improvements will be very noticeable. If they are than I got a good deal, if not I'm not out nothing but the time it takes to sent it back, and you get to keep the plug wires.
