Here’s a head’s up on a power window problem.
I made a few quick searches and didn’t see too much on this item (who knows? I could be wrong?)
Anyway, this was done on 95 “x”:
My nephew didn’t realize the driver’s side window was totally iced up and frozen solid …and of course… he fired up the car and, shortly thereafter, hit the DOWN button on the driver’s window. You guessed it….BAM! The window ****ed and jammed!
My first thought was a side track rivet popped. I repaired the rear one on my “X” a while ago.
Well, as it turned out, the window is attached to a “regulator arm” with two clips which are “glued” to the window. The window had separated from the front clip. Obviously, the window was locked in tight and that’s a weak spot. The motor had pulled it right out (that may be the reason it is glued?...whatever)
Note: “two people” help on this one
My brother in law and I popped the door panel and removed the interior top rubber strip. We removed the bolts on one of the scissor arms. This gave us get just enough “play” to move the glass and “jiggle it” (carefully!! 100 demits if you crack the glass or it crashes down inside the door…that’s the “two people part”)
We returned the glass to both front and rear tracks, in line and sitting back on the front clip. We had put silicone plumber’s GOOP on the clip.
We shot the window to the “UP position” to keep pressure on the goop till everything “set up” and dried .
Seems like it did the trick
Everything seems to be “functioning and within normal operating parameters.”
The damages?
If you have the GOOP - your time and $0.00
Hope it is of help to others
PS Make or buy a panel popping tool. It will save you a lotta grief and make things go easier.
