So, I am looking for a set of rear 4-dr leaves (preferably the F-code). Jc Whitney has them for about $80 each, or I could go to the bone yard. Does anyone know if the Jc Whitney springs are any good? Are they the same, better, or worse in quality compared with the Ford springs? If I go to the bone yard (small town), they will probably ask me what I am willing to pay for them. What is a good price for a set (preferably 75k mi. or less)?

I have no clue to the quality of the JCW springs. But, I will say this: JCW, and companies like them, source parts from manufacturers that will allow the largest mark-up. Chances are, the leaf packs are from the Far East, which means the quality might be questionable. Last time I priced Ford leaf packs (from the dealer), I think they were about $360 for the pair. Now, I'm not saying Ford's quality is any better than JCW but I'm going to guess it is.

That said, I purchased a set of F-150 leaf packs from a "u-pull-it" yard last fall for $26 each. The truck had approx. 86K miles. I doubt any junkyard would place a premium on leaf packs due to the vehicle they come from (in other words, all leaf packs from that yard were probably $26 each). I live just outside of Chicago and thought that was a pretty good price. Robb (moderator of this forum) lives in Virginia and told me he would be able to source leaf packs for even less. So, it depends on where you live and if the yard will allow you to pull them. If the yard does the work, prepare to pay more. If you do it, prepare for some hard work, the eye-bolts and shackle bolts are likely rusty and hard to remove.

Good Luck - Dave.

Wow, thanks a lot for the info. I am leaning toward going to the bone yard and having them pull the springs for me.

Heads up though... leaf springs sag over time.
