Would you go with The JLs or CDTs (I can get both for around $200 new per pair and will be getting two pairs. Or would you get another brand in that price area? They will be hooked up to a Kicker KX650.4 amp. I'm going for really clear sound quality. Also they will be going in an '01 GMC Yukon (There are already spots for all 4 6.5"s and all 4 tweeters) One more thing... can the JLs handle 120 watts RMS x4?

Just hook up some good components in the front and forget anything in the rear doors. It will be loud enough to where you dont need rear fill and you will have MUCH better imaging. The JLs have very very little midbass, I would go with the CDTs over JL any day.

Do I need midbass if I have subs hooked up? Also if I don't put speakers in the back doors won't it sound like crap in the back to the people sitting back there?

The subs arent supposed to play midbass, so yes you need midbass. midbass is what kicks you in the chest. When you feel that coming from the subs they are playing higher than they should be. 80hz is the highest I would run subs personally. If you dont have speakers in the rear doors and a set of very good components up front off of 125w per side the people in the back will still be able to hear it very well. I have no rear speakers and I have sat back there. It still sounds extremely nice.

Ok, well if I was going to get just 1 good pair for the front and nothing in the back (Which I really really don't think I'm going to do because I just don't like the idea of having no speakers in the back)(This is a Yukon, it's a lot bigger than an explorer) Would like a $400 (on ebay) pair of Boston Acoustics be good?

Also are the MB Quart PCE 216 6-1/2" Premium Components better than the JLs/CDTs?

I'd get Bostons over CDT but CDT over MB and MB over JL. How dare you move to the dark side. This is happening a lot on this site recently.

I dont think you realise how loud some components off of 125w per side are going to be lol. I was running around 80w per side and i could hear the music CLEARLY inside my house with my doors shut and the door to the house shut...

What's wrong with JL? My friend has two JL w3's 500/1 JL amp, 2 Pairs of the XRs, 300/4 JL amp, and it sounds really good..

I plan on having 120w per speaker for all 4 speakers...

i have components front and rear in a sport with 80w RMS. it is loud as ****. but not too loud IMO. i think it is just right. if you are going to go 120 RMS watts per speaker it will be pretty dang loud. i only have experience with the Alpine type Rs (in mine, with 2 12w3v2s) and JL components (in my friends ranger, complimenting 3 12w3v2s) .both sound clear and loud. every one has different sound preferences so i suggest listening to the speakers if possible b4 buying them.

Yeah, I think I'm going with the JLs because one of my friends has them and I like how they sound a lot..And I have never heard any CDT speakers before (I have heard infinitys and MB Quarts and I like the JLs more.

The problem with JL is you pay too much for what you get.

I can get them For less than $200 shipped brand new.. And JLs are very good quality.
