Just like the thread says, w3 vs kappa. I am looking for opinions here, I know this is a preference question, so I want some preferences from other people. I am going primarily for sound quality above all else, but I want something that can hit pretty hard too.

My amp spits out 250 watts rms, which is about the right power range for these 2 subs. Whichever I go with, I will be getting 2 of them, and they have to be 10's.

Here is what I see right now:

Price: JL=200, Kappa=100
power: JL=300, Kappa=275
sens: JL=88, Kappa=93

both require about the same space

The only other question I have is as far as enclosures go, infinity recomends polyfill, where do you get that stuff, how much is it, and does it make a big differance?

Thanks guys.

Don't have an experience opinion on either sub since I've never used either. Based on the numbers you posted the Kappa's are cheaper with better sensitivity and about the same power handling, so I would go with them, but again I have had no experience with either.

As far as polyfill, it's pillow stuffing. You can get it at walmart, possibly at home improvement stores and maybe at a fabric store. I'm sure there are other places as well. You will want to use about 1 pound of polyfill per cubic foot of air space.

Re:

The Infinity Kappas are a great SQ sub. I know somebody that has them and they sound great. They have a high sensitivity so 275 watts seems like twice that. Great Buy.
I dont have any experience with JL subs. BUT, If you were getting JL, Ive heard great things about the w7's, which are probably a lot more powerful than what your amp is suited for. I would get two Infinity 10's.

i would go with the infinities also. I dont think JL's are worth the price they cost. Just my opinion

I have a set of two Infinity Kappa Perfect 12.1D (DVC 12"), I absolutely love them. I hear Kickers/JLs/Audiobahns all day long, they almost all sound the same, just the Infinity is such a nice SQ sub that it suits me soo well.

If you're an SPL goer or for the "pound", go for the JLs, but honestly, the only JLs worth buying are the JLw6v2/w7, even their low-end seems overpriced more.

I guess you could call this a biased opinion, but I like Infinity better.

well i have 1 w3v2 10" and it is great its crisp and loud and very clear. the one 10 hits just as hard as 2 12" sonys. i love my JL. never heard infinity subs but i have heard the components and they are very good. JL 10 w3 should only cost you bout 130-150 each.

A Question about the polyfill.....I have it stapled all around the walls on the inside of my box. Now if I completly filled the box with poly-fill, would it make a nice big difference or would it be Overkill?

Polyfill is mainly used to make a small enclosure seem larger to the sub. I've heard as much as 15-20% larger, though that seems a bit high. If your sub enclosure meets the specs of the manufacturer, PF probably won't make a difference however, the only way to know for sure is to try different quantities and see what happens. Again, if your in spec, I wouldn't bother. 1 lb. of PF is recommended per cubic foot of space.

i would go with the jl audio 10W3v2 over the Infinity for many reasons. the jl audio is over all a better brand, made better, can handle more power than said "factory underrated", the one-way x-max on the jl should be way more which means your moving more air which means the sub is louder. the jl has more technology in it than the infinity. its worth the extra money you pay for it in my opinion

I've used them both.. They are both good subs... Personally I prefer the JL over the Infinity. It's a bit warmer sound and, from my tests, slightly better in both SQ and SPL... And $200 is a bit much for one also, you should be able to find one for $150-$175 or even cheaper...

And sensativity does not equal the final volume a sub can produce... FYI... Alot of people use that to kind of guage which speaker is 'louder' and that's just not an accurate use for that measurement.

I agree with SirGCal $200 is a little steep for a w3. I think you should be able to find some new first version w6s for that price. I had two 10inch w6s in my golf and they were the best subs I have ever owned or heard before. My friend had 4 12's forgot the brand and my 2 10s were almost as loud and sounded a million times better. When the Jl rep heard my car he was even suprised that they were that load.
