What's the deal with this sub? Is it good to use as a single 12 in a sealed box? What's up with the OHM rating? My amp is only 4ohm stable, will it be okay?

I have the same HU!!!!

Congrats on getting the JL 12W6. Those speakers rock. Your speaker will be fine with that amp, although it will probably want more power. I think the W6 series can be run around 300 watts.
JL makes all their speakers 6OHMs. You can get dual voice coil models which would drop the load on your amp to 3OHMs if you really want.
What's the power rating on your amp? Is it 100x1 into 4OHMs? Is it a two channel which is bridgeable?

Karl

I actually don't have the sub yet, I'm still looking around. My amp is a 2 channel amp that is bridgeable. I know it's not 2 ohm stable which is why I didn't buy a DVC sub before. I'll have to look at the paper work tonight to see what the amp tested at the factory. I'll also see if it's stable at 3 ohms.

jl doesnt make all their speakers 6 ohms..

the W6 series has dual 6 ohm voice coils. the W3 series comes in either dual 2, 4, or 6 ohm models. the W0 series comes in single 4, 8, and 12 ohm models. and the W1 comes in 4 or 8 ohms (SVC).

Ooops. Mis typed what I was trying to say. LEENJEN is right.
But I don't feel bad. I've put my foot further in my mouth before.

For info on my amp and some more details check out the other thread I posted about Sub selection with Leenjen's name in the title.

karl- sorry. i didn't mean to sound like an a**hole. i was just making sure kris new what subs were available with DVC and SVC, and what impedance.

Kris- why not get the JL12W3 Dual 2 ohm subwoofer? then you can run it off your amp @ 4 ohms mono....
since your amp is a few years old, i wouldn't want to try running it at 3 ohms mono (last thing you need now is your amp going out on you ;) ).
