I wanna get 2 JL W6's but can I tie them together for a 2 ohm load instead of running them separatly at a 4 ohm load? I have heard many rumors about this and need some clarity before I make the box and amp rack. Thanks in advance.

Dual 6 ohm voice coils only

Sorry brother, they don't work that way, on either account. They are dual 6 ohm voice coils. They are designed to be run in three's. The two that you want to get, is not your best option. For this application, they can either be run in 3 ohm stereo, 6 ohm mono, or a 1.5 ohm mono load. The last option is your best bet for the most power out of your amp, but unless you own a high current amp, designed to run at low impedances, it will likely overheat your amp, and shorten its life considerably. Your best bet in this case is either to buy 3 W6's, or go with two of the JL W3's...they are available in Dual 2 ohm, dual 4 ohm, or dual 6 ohm configurations. If you don't know about wiring them, just let me know, I'll be happy to explain it, i just don't want to take up any more space in this post......by the way, I have owned both of these speakers, and they jam. Pounding bass, with remarkable accuracy and Sound Quality. I currently own 3 10 W6's with a kicker ZR 600 rated at around 975 watts mono. They are wired to a 4 ohm mono load. It is nasty. Anyway, I promise you it is worth the extra money.

Good luck,
Lee
Can't wait for the new W7's....

I am still a little confused. I am getting a Punch 800a2 amp. Can I wire 2 W6's somehow with this amp or do I have to get the W3's. I would get the third but I don't have that much money right now. Any help on clearing this up will help me alot. Thanks.

The confusion is because the W6s do not have a four ohm load. They have a 6 ohm load in each voice coil, and each of these subs has two coils. Hence, the W6 for 6 ohms. The W6s have the weird ohm load design because they were *specifically made for triple sub applications*. Therefore, if you only use 2 W6s, you're going to get weird ohm loads, which is fine, just make sure you wire them so they don't exceed the amp's maximum ohm load capability. You can't get 2 or 4 ohm loads from these speakers, unless you buy three of them.

If you're set on getting those two specific brands, then get the 2 W6s, wire each voice coil up in parallel, so that each sub has 3 ohms. Then wire each sub up to one channel of the amp. You'll be pulling 300 watts from each channel, which I believe is the right power handling for each sub. Your noted amp is capable of doing at least 2 ohms per channel, so the three ohms will be fine if that's what you're worried about.
