I bought my 02 explorer with a Panosonic double din dvd player.

Literally, it played DVDs, CDS and fm radio and that's it. No Aux, No Bluetooth, No USB, No GPS, No nothing. lol

So I sold it for $150 and added about $100 and started looking for something
good but cheap. I didn't want to cheap too much but I wasn't buying one of those 800 or 900 double dins.

So, I settled and just bought a Jensen VX7020.

It was the best value I could find for that price range.
So hopefully I enjoy it and it lasts for a few years to come.

I installed a Cheap Back Up Camera from Amazon with my old unit, so I've already got that wired in.

Def looking forward to having this headunit.

I have a set of 12"s and a amp in the back, but am considering upgrading the stock speakers and a 4ch amp to make those sound better. Is it worth it?
I actually have a Memphis Audi 4Chan amp sitting in my office. Nothing big, but 50w rms for all 4chan i'm sure would beat out the 13w the unit puts out.

Just not sure if it's worth wiring up and doing. I enjoy good music clarity but
on a budget. It's an explorer, I don't expect it to sound like my Audi with it's 11 speaker system... but wouldn't mind having something better than stock.

I just installed a Jensen VX7020 on my son's 98 Camaro - required new trim bezel through Metra. My wife likes this unit so much - she wants one in her 99 Explorer (Eddie Bauer - Mach Stereo System). Unfortunately, she ordered it before I looked at her car first - Mach Radio system with steering wheel controls (SWC) and rear seat radio control is a real bugger. I don't know if I am able to get it to work this Explorer. That is why I joined the forum …. Does anyone have experience in rewiring the Mach radio system with an aftermarket head unit?

Mach Radio rewires normally, you just lose the steering and back seat control.

This unit has steering wheel control wires with it, so I wonder if they would just wire up...

I highly doubt it'll just wire up. There's a very small chance, other than that you'll need the adapter box for it (Not worth it for the price). Let me look it up for you..

I'm probably going to attempt to retrofit a steering wheel with controls into my explorer which didn't come with it.
I don't see why it would be an issue as long as I pull the harness from the wheel to the radio.

I purchased a metra harness adapter for like 5 bucks from amazon prime and it was 100% color coded accurately. Solder the two together and it worked perfect. ( for the regular radio of course. ) The Jensen radio has extra wires for the SWC. There has to be additional wires from the swc....?
