just dropped off the firestones at ford for reimbursement...

my vote would be for the 265s... that way you won't get any rubbing whatsoever. with the 275s, you'll probably need the 3/16" spacer from explorer express, though you can put them on first to see how it works out. if they do rub, then you can order them from EE.

i looked back at some of mudd*****'s posts and not only is his 1st generation X, but he had 4x4 as well, and had trouble fitting the rims over his hubs unless he used spacers. you're not going to have to worry about any of this...

Well I made it safely to Cal!

98greyxlt- You have the 3/16" spacers with 275/55/17 right? I dont have a problem with buying those spacers since they are not very big at all and because you said they are like $30. However has everything worked out good for you with using the spacers? Everyone Ive seen has had big problems with the 1"spacers but I think 3/16" should be safe... Who installes spacers? Would/Could my tire people do it?

You said you have slight rubbing...Is that because you are lowered? Also is that on a FULL turn or does it take place regularly? Do you have any of your fender trimmed out?

I think I will go with :

1) 275/70/17
2) 3/16"spacers
3) 16 chrome lugs.
4) Body shop fender trimming

Think that will work? Is that everything I should need?
Wheel locks are just so they cant be stolen right? I shouldnt need those for now.

Thanks a lot man,
Grant

You could probably use 16 chrome lugs but I think you'll be much safer using 20 lugs, chrome or not... Unless you were planning on using some wheel locks...

grant -

i'll second heath's opinion.... 16 chrome lugs aren't going to work out too well for you if you're not going to have 4 wheel locks. remember our wheels are 5 lug. i said 16 lugs in previous posts assuming you'd have 4 wheel locks.

spacers are simple to install. if you know how to change a tire, that's about it. you take off the front wheels, slip the spacer over the rotor, then replace the wheels. that's it.

but yeah, i have 3/16" spacers with 275/55/17. i tried to go without them at first, but i got rubbing on the upper A arms and on the wheel well, while turning at only about 3/4 range.

with the spacers in, i get very little rubbing, and only at FULL turn, basically when the steering wheel is turned at full lock. i don't think it has anything to do with the fact that i'm lowered... i think it's occuring on the A arm, which doesn't know if you're lowered or not, right? i've only had them in for about a month, but so far so good. i, too, wanted to stay away from 1" spacers. the 3/16" are a good way to go.

also, i haven't had to cut out any fender trim. now you're making me curious... maybe that's where the tiny bit of rubbing occuring...

oh, and welcome to cali... are you visiting northern or southern ca?

i just thought id meniotn that i think its funny tht this thread has about 44 replies so far, but only, like, the first few are about the original topic :) not that im complaining, i mean, i sold my rims because of this thread, and grants gonna have a damn cool setup thanks to it, too.

btw, logan, do you have pics of your truck? im dying to see it with the X-Spec suspension and rims.

Alright well then I guess Ill make that 20 chrome lugs...Should I go ahead and order those somewhere or shoud I be able to get them locally? Are they visible?

You have any pictures of yours 98greyxlt?

I am visiting southern Cal like around Orange county and about an hour or so from LA. Aunt/uncle live here but they are out of town so my family has the whole house. We are goin to Palm springs on like Monday...

Anyways thanks and yea all 40 some replies have basically been from us 3.

Grant

i was thinking that exact same thing when i was writing my last reply, that we've kinda veered off the thread subject. i'm sure that grant's going to be happy with the rims, but part of me is bummed that it didn't work out in a way where you got to keep the cobras on your truck, tbomb.

as for pics of my setup, i should have some soon. i've been bugging my friend for 3 weeks to borrow her digital camera, and i think i should have it this weekend... the car's REALLY clean right now. just had it detailed over the weekend... $90, wash, wax, shampoo carpets... they did a bang-up job. this is the first time i've ever taken it to a place to have it washed, and it saved me like 6 hours.

grant-

you don't need to order the lugs. your tire shop should have them. especially don't get them from ford, though, they charge like $3 per for their cobra-r lugs. if your shop doesn't have them, just use your stock X lugs until they can order them... and yes, they are visible. you can see how visible they are by looking at tbomb's pics, since he just used stock lugs.

grant, if you're up in the LA area and you see a lowered grey 98 xlt with cobra Rs, then that's probably me. don't know if this is your first time to southern cali, but i've lived here my whole life, so if you have any questions about the area, feel free to ask.
