Just got Flowmaster 50

I think if I had a V-6 I would get an exhaust that gave me the most power and also really quiet. I have not heard many 6'ers sound that good with any type of loud exhaust. Too raspy for me. Just never can get that deep enough sound. But I would love to slap a turbo on there with built internals and on high boost. It is kind of nice to hear just the turbo whistle and no exhaust. Besides when it is quiet it makes one heck of a nice sleeper!

Ive got a question, i wanna get a new exhaust, i want the duals that exit through the side and are the ones with the big pipes, and i wanna know which is the best exhuast for me to get, I have a mercury mountaineer v6 2wd, i dont know if that would fall into a sohc of the ohv models of the ford explorer, i want a exhaust that sounds low and rumbly and loud, kinda like a old school muscle car i guess, and also give me some good performance gains. so would FM 50 or 40 be best for my suv and not sound too ricey

If you are interested in what a flowmaster 40 sounds like on a V6 I can email you some sound clips. As for the 50 there are clips around here as well. Which one you get will depend on how loud you like your exhaust. I love the sound of my 40 series.

ok thanx, and what would version of my mounty engine would it fall under when compared with a ford, the ohv or the sohc ( i think those are spelled right).

I don't wanna take over this thread any more than I already have. Lets do this through PM's if you want to hear the clips.

to get that true old school sound you need to install a h-pipe. which on our v6's ohv or sohc is worth less. you would lose to much back pressure and it'll sound like ****. unless your running a turbo or supercharger a true dual setup is over kill. if you want power gains stick with the single in dual out muffler. I want that killer sound too, so thats why I have my gt on the side. :) thanks for that pic the tails look sharp like that.

The only real way to tell is to open your hood and look. I'm gonna take a stab at it and say its a SOHC because its a mounty. Just open your hood and see if it says SOHC on the big plastic piece or EFI OHV.

I would recommend a 50 series for the SOHC and a 40 series for the OHV. I have the SOHC with the 50 series with duals and its just as loud as my friends OHV with the 40 series with the same dual setup. If you have the SOHC you wont really have a choice anyway because you will need a dual in/dual out muffler which doesnt come in a 40 series, only the 50 series SUV performance muffler will fit without all kinds of couplers and Y pipes.

Well i was bout to go get my exhaust but i decided to look at my warranty and it says something bout No engine mods or anything of that nature, and i was wondering if going through with this would VOID my warranty? also would a air intake VOID my warranty?

How long of a waranty do you got???!?!?!!?

It will only void one certain part of your warranty. But not the whole thing. Unless the company can prove that if anything goes wrong with the truck it is due to the exhaust being done. MOst of the time places use that just to scare a person. Common sense will get a person a long way when dealing with those scare tactics.

Hey X24 do you have any sound clips of your friend with the 40? and is it the regular 40 or the delta? and what size piping is he using for the duals. thanks a bunch

Scott

I can email you some clips of his truck. I think its the delta with 2.25" pipes.

I went to my local muffler shop today, and they wanted to charge $290 plus walkout to install a flowmaster 50, is that a good price for it? also he told me it wont be that loud due to my cat, is that true?

I have a flowmaster 50 and both of my cats and its pretty loud.

Do you think the price he's chargin me is good, or is it too much?

If thats the price for the muffler, bent tailpipe, tip, and installation then I dont think thats bad. Just make sure that everything is welded and not clamped.

I wish I had seen this thread before I made my own.... Anyways, I want to put a 50 series on, along with replacing my 2 cats for 1 hi flow. A couple Q's now, will I get better performance gains if I go dual out (on a SOHC)? I am looking for performance gains more than sound here. I will probably lose the resonator right away because I read on here that it might make it sound like crap, but first I want to know what exactly it does? Will I run into problems regarding the O2 sensors?

Also, whats the diff between the normal 50 series and the SUV one?

Cory

Someone has to know the answers to my q's...

A resonator cancels resonating sound frequencys so it doesnt drone. Taking it out with an aftermarket exhaust is common. For preformance I would recommend a 2.5" single out for a SOHC. With duals you will lose too much backpressure. I dont know about your O2 sensor or cat question because I have never tangled with them. The difference between the 50 and the SUV 50 is that the SUV one is designed for larger engines and and is larger inside to accomodate the flow. Judging from pictures it also has less baffles inside.

I went to another muffler shop today and asked for the flowmaster 50 series and he told me that it was a "quite" muffler and i should get the 40 series or the magnaflow and he told me he can get me whichever i wanted for $325 everything included (tips, labor, and all equipment)

He said he recommended the magnaflow because the flowmasters will resonate into the cab and get real annoying.

Was what he said about those 2 mufflers correct and is $325 a good price? or do u think i can get it cheaper?

I have the Flowmaster 50 with single 2.5" out and it's really not bad at all. It has a nice sound outside, and inside under normal driving it's not loud enough to be irritating. But if you want to hear it, just step on it and let people know it's there. I bought my 50 series from Summit and had it installed with 2.5 pipes back and it cost me $248 for everything ($150 for installation and pipes, $98 for the muffler shipped.) I'm still looking for the right tip, so that doesn't include that.
