Ok i've been forum searching and have not found a comparision to a 6x8 verses just a 5 1/4 or other round speaker... are there any advantages? and if you were to get a set would u spend more for a front set and put cheapers in the rear or would u keep them all the same? someone has to have an input as I want to spend less then 150 for all of em. If you can help let me know.. I heard good things of bostons

The way a speaker sound is a matter of personal tastes. Go to as many car audio shops that you can until you find a speaker that you like and are willing to pay for. Take a cd with you that has your favorite song on it. That is so you know how it supposed to sound and to make sure that you like the way it sounds. It is not going to help pick a speaker if you listen to country and the car sudio shop only has jazz. As for the difference between a round vs. a oval. The round speaker will more linear than an oval. But like I said as long as you like the way it sounds that is all that matters. As for front and rear. I would focus on the front speakers first. You sit in the front take care of you first. If you only have $150 to spend, spend it all on the fronts and change the rears later when you get extra money. I have done it every way. I started with fronts only W/ no rears. Then bought better fronts and moved the old fronts to the rears. And finally adding a matching set to the rear. Brands that I have used and liked are Boston, Polk Audio, & MB Quart. One last thing car audio is addiicting so be carefull.

So if I spent the extra cash and bought som SL80's and put them up front... I'd be very happy with the sound they reproduced? then maybe put some cheap Bostons in the back?

If you have not gone to the store and listened to them, do that first. I had a set of the 6-1/2" Boston Pro components. I thought they sounded very good, they were clean and gave a nice "warm" sound. The only reason I switched was I got a great deal on some "Q" series MB Quart's. I did notice the Bostons take alot of power. I had 150x2 rms and I bet I could have run 200x2. But yes if you have listened to them and you like them, then yes buy them.

Round speakers typically have a fuller midbass and are more capable of a flat response (perfect sq). To the average listener, though, there isn't that much of a difference.

all right, just do this, it's what i did, and it's great.

go to circuit city/best buy, and buy the speaker set that is made by Infiniti, it's either a 5x7, or 6x8, comes with separate crossovers, and separate tweeters. you'll have to custom mount the tweeters, it's not a hard installation. install those, and you'll be in GREAT condition. retail price of the speakers is about 200 bucks.

Infiniti 5x7 or 6x8, with crossover and tweeters = perfection

least that's what i think

i've heard nothing but compliments... no pun intended

OK guys that sounds like a plan go listen to them and see what sounds best... I stopped at a local audio shop but prices were extreme. I'm thinking about some Reference speakers or boston drop in components. If i do the infinity component it would have to be a custom job and I'm not so sure... I think we all agree that front speakers are what i should focus concentration on first. has anyone ever used those cheap pioneer or other >50 dollar speaker set? I wouldnt' want to be only a grade above stock if I'm going to spend the money I will probably do like you guys have and buy something worth a darn. Thanks for the ideas I'll go give some speakers a listen to.
