Alright, I just wanted a chance to shamelessly self-promote... My old muffler had a huge hole in the bottom of it, right at the back, and so it was hella loud... It had a gorgeous tone, and would set off car alarms like nobody's business, but I started getting complaints about the volume because I drive at night a lot... So, after poring long and hard (Ok, maybe like an hour) over threads on the topic, and taking a look at both Flowmasters and Magnaflows, I decided to go with the Magnaflow... It took a while to do though, as I couldn't get the original muffler off... eventually, with my pop helping me out, we unbolted the exhaust pipe from the cat and pulled that section and the muffler off... The tailpipe itself came off alright, but the muffler wouldn't separate from the section of pipe that bolts to the cats... turns out that the original exhaust clamps had been put on too tightly and had warped the muffler and the pipe... We had to hack apart the part of the muffler that attaches to the pipe to extract it... then, it was just a matter of clamping it all back together. Took about an hour and a half, but it's all back together now. I haven't had a chance to drive it yet, as I'm going out soon and didn't see the point, but it's a lot quieter... seems to still have a nice tone, but I can't tell yet... Need a test drive first. I just need to replace the cats with high-flow ones and get rid of the resonator... and possibly go with a rear-exit exhaust... But, so far the total cost was about $150 CAD... about $125 for the muffler, $20 for two adaptors, two clamps, and an exhaust hanger, and $5 for a recipsaw metal blade...
