1992 explorer XLT
Been looking at youtube, and some of the explorer content brought me here. Been doing a little reading and thought I would join up.

I've been driving a green 93 explorer XL since about 2014ish, and just came across a lifted white explorer (while walking my dog) just sitting in someones side yard with 2015 tags here in the year 2020, so I knew it wasn't being driven. Plus all the cobwebs and dust sitting on it gave it away too. I walked by it a few times just thinking how much I would love to have it just for the lift alone. Then by chance saw the owner of the place outside and talked to him. Turns out the transmission was shot, but the engine still runs, so they where willing to sell it. They wanted $500 but I talked them down to $350, and got it home as fast as a could. This was the beginning of last May.

The funny thing is my 93 explorer was knocking and pinging like crazy anymore, but the transmission was still working fine, so I dropped the transmission on both and put the 93 tranny into the 92. My first time ever doing a tranny swap and so far so good. It's now 1200 miles later on the 92, and while some other minor things popped up, like a leaky rear dif and a cracked radiator, it's been great. since I have a 93 sitting there without a transmission now, I've been pulling some parts here and there as needed that where new, like the brake calipers and the radiator. I also had a brand new window regulator and motor in the driver door that I swapped into the 92. I managed to repair all of the other windows too without buying new parts.

I didn't trust the tires either so I got some brand new ones all around. The old ones where dry rotted and 2 started to bulge. So that was a no brainer. Got a set of 50,000 mile tires at 31x10.5 r15. I also took the rims from my 93 XL and put them onto my 92 XLT. I liked them much much better.

Anyways here she is with about 131,000 miles on it. Well 132,000ish now.

Nice looking Explorer and a cool story:chug:

Thank you. By the way I forgot to mention.... It came with manual lockers. After fighting with my auto lockers I'm so happy to have manuals for the first time.

Welcome.
