I installed the fitler on my 94 XLT, and removed the stock air filter box, and heat riser. I have a questin though

the heat riser seemed like it was attached to the engine block by some flimsy hose type thing. ONe end was clamped to the air box assembly, the other just went around some opening towards the bottom of the engine.

What is this for? Right now there is nothing covering that opening, and I was wondering if there is something that should go in its place, or if I should cover that up?

I put my fingers in the hole and it doesn't seem to be anything.

ANyone know?

thanks

useless vacuum hose, just plug it

KKM includes a screw that you can use to plug the vacuum line. That vac line goes to the intake manifold, not the block.

Thanks, but I'm not referring the the vaccum line. I put that bolt in there as you said.

This is an opening on the bottom of the engine. It looks like its part of a heat shield. It is about the size of a regular hose, not the size of a vaccum line. Maybe 2" opening something like that? It doesn't seem to serve a purpose, I'm just wondering If I can cover it up or is it not necessary.

this hose is next to where the discarded vaccum line was, that was on the stock air box. Its just a flimsy tube that was covering it. I will try and get a pic or something

mohog, what can I plug it with? Does it have to be something that air can pass through?

Are you talking about the heat riser? It should be a pliable alum tube that went from the intake to the exhaust manifold. If that's it, don't worry about it. It was designed to circulate warm air off the man to the intake for cold starting. When you took the OE air box out you also took out the diverter valve that controled the flow. Hope this helps.

yeah, that is what I was talking about. Thanks! It sounds like what I am talking about anyway.

so what do I do with the hole, just leave it or should I at least cover it. Im just worried about stuff getting in it or something.

My airbox on my 94 had 3 things going into it.
1. air intake tube (square plastic, going toward front of truck).

2. vacuum line (a small round rubber hose connecting to the back of the top of the airbox)

3. heat riser line (a small round rubber hose (same size as No. 2 above) connecting to the back of the airbox next to the vac line.

If you're talking about the No. 3, heat riser line, I just stuck a spare license plate bolt into it that I had laying around.

Are you talking about the thing that looks like a small aluminum dryer hose? If you are it can be safely removed. It just attaches to your exhaust manifold to warm incoming air when the engine is cold. It's absolutely worthless after you install the KKM.
I just left mine on. There was no reason to go digging around the bottom of my engine to get the stupid thing off. Just tuck it back away from anything moving and you should be fine. If it gets dirty it shouldn't cause any problems. If it doesn't get dirty, you aren't trying nearly hard enough! ;) Hope that helps.

yeah, it is like a dryer hose..thast a good description..same flimsy material..i just removed the whole thing..now I just have the KKM on there...I think I put the support bracket on the wrong side though..lol

It holds it up just fine, but I think it was supposed to go on the other side..

thanks for everyones help

My 94 OHV never had any "dryer-type" hose going into the airbox, ... interesting..

it didn't go into the air box itself, it went into the heat riser that connected on the side of the air box and ran by the head light

Oh, THAT tube. I never removed the intake or the riser from my truck. I didn't need to remove them to install the intake, so they just sit there.

Actually I have the KKM/MAF housing partially supported by the old plastic intake. Works well. I found KKM's supplied bracket to be insufficient for the task...
