I was looking for some advice... I wanted to keep the stock head unit and just add an amp or something to help the sound. I do not know much about the stereo in the truck. I have added a 10 disc changer. I would also like to add a couple of small speakers and maybe a sub. I don't mean to sound wishy-washy. I just want simple good clear sound with minor alterations, if that is possible.

I'd replace the speakers before I got an amp. Decent 5x7s can be bought for around $50-75 a pair. The factory amp, while not the greatest, will suply enough power to make the speakers sound good. Just to let you know, once you start buying stuff, as with any mods, you can't stop.

I totally agree with Godfather. Get the speakers first. You'll never really know if you needed to buy that extra amp if you don't change the speakers first. You may find that new speakers were all you needed. Aftermarket speakers will give you clearer sound, depending on the ones you buy a larger range of sound, and probably play a little louder with better sensitivity.

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice.

Godfather....Amen to the "once you start buying stuff, you can't stop" I already learned that lesson with my suspension.

Do you think just replaceing the speakers will give me a wider range of sound? If you remember from your stock speakers I get real crappy bass.

What type of good speakers would you suggest?

There's a lot of good ones. I found the best prices are at www.tms-electronics.com Every thing I have ordered is at my house with in 2 days. I think there's 7 different brands to choose from. I have Boston Acoustics in mine and they are excelent. I got mine from a friend for $40, but in the catalog they're $130..i think. Get good ones because sooner or later you're going to want to run an amp to them.
