Hi From Australia
Can someone out there help me with some imformation on a k&n air filter for the stock airbox , are they made and is there a part number for 1997 xlt awd 4.0lit shoc ford explorer auto.
I have taken out the small intake funnel out of the bottom of air box and fitted a large pipe to draw in more cold air from around the head light.

Chux,

I'm sure that K&N makes a filter that will simply replace your stock filter and fit the stock airbox. If you do a search on this site, you'll find many a post regarding the benefits of K&N's. In fact, someone included the K&N website address, I can't find it right now.

I bought a K&N for my '96 at Advanced Auto Parts (most auto parts stores like Auto Zone, NAPA have them in stock for about $40 US), they had a book that listed the part numbers made for each model. Your idea to draw more cold air is a good one, the K&N will only help even more. Good luck!
