I was wondering is there any place that has documented the power increase of the whole K&N system over just the filter? Or has anyone noticed any difference? I just have the filter right now not the tube and all that other stuff.

I noticed better throttle response with a K&N drop-in. But the factory filter was really dirty when I changed it, so I don't really know how effective it is.

The KN kit (at least for the 4.0 OHV) doesn't include an intake tube, it just replaces the entire airbox with a large conical filter. Check out the KKM (www.kustomz.com) for an alternative. Some members report that a drop-in with a drilled or partially removed airbox is about the same, but a larger filter is usually always better.

Speaking of the KKM how is it illegal? It looks the same as the k&N? If you drill the airbox how is that done? If I can just drill the airbox if that makes just as much power. I had a 95 GT and I just had the k&n and pulled the air silencer. Those tubes that come with the k&n didnt do much in the way of performance for it either. So that would be great if I can modifu the existing box. Has anyone here done that?

The KKm isn't CARB certified like the K&N FIPK, hence the higher price. In some states like CA where there is a visual emissions inspection, the KKM would fail the inspection. I used my Dremel and cut a big square out of the front of my air box and am using a drop in K&N. I wanted the stock look, and you cant tell the box has been cut. Some people just drill big holes in the front of the box. Same concept.I noticed a definate increase in power. I highly recommend it, as it is a "free" mod and it really works.
