k&N or KKN....

ok i dont know all that much about engines (im learning, gimmie a break) but on my explorer right now is a K7N cone filter. i know that the k&n isnt stock but i was wondering what difference or if i even needed to put on like a kkn true rev intake.
any advice would be appreciated.

I'd like to start off by welcoming you to the site. You'll find anything and everything all right here.

As for the filter......are you sure that it is an aftermarket filter?? The 95's and up came with a cone filter stock. I'm guessing it is though. If it is a K@N I wouldn't worry about a thing then. The difference between the K@N and the KKM isn't much. If you've got one then there's no need to upgrade to the other.


ps....I also take it you meant K&N with the 7 and the & key's being the same. If you have a KKN then I still wouldn't worry about it. You've done upgraded the filter to a better than stock one....just sit back and enjoy it.

My 99 came with a standard "flat" square filter, not a cone. Which models came with a cone?

well i took it too my dads shop for an oil change and the mechanic there said that it wasnt stock. but he could be wrong. mainly what im wondering is if the "can" filters are better then the "cone" filters

The exposed cone filters, whether it be a K&N or a KKM flow more air and are more effecient than the stock units.

I have a KKM on my 4.0 SOHC and after installing I could tell a more powerful sound upon accellerating, better gas mileage, and more seat of the britches hp.

aldive, i have a sohc like you and i had the square filter, but my mom and my sister have OHV's, and they have the cone filters...just to quench your curiousity.

hey thanx for your advice guys.

haha im at work right now and was just out in the parking lot talkin to the fedex driver about intake. and he didnt know what cone filter i was talking about so i opened the hood and took off the houseing and the filter and showed him. i then realized my hands and arms were completely black. now if i worked at some lil company that wouldnt be bad, but i work for a big company (autodesk) in a big building were everyone is all dressed nice. i walked back in the building looking like a weirdo. but thats ok.

Mikeresin - Off the subject - I take it you're either a Programmer or a Civil working for AutoDesk. I use it at work also (LDT v2i and Architecture v2i) can I call on you for some expert advice on LDT sometimes, especially regarding plotting????

sorry id love to help you but im not a programmer, i do corporate shipping and recieving. if i was a programmer i would be drivin a 2000 explorer =D

and i decided what im going to do. instead of just replaceing the housed cone filter with an exposed one me and my buddy found a set up for 2 exposed filters that we are going to mount down in the fender and use some ABS 90's to make a custom cold air induction. this set up with the 2 K&N filters looks beefy.
