I know some of you carry kayaks on your explorer.
Im looking for a roof rack / mouting system.
The only thing I can find right now is this.
http://www.orsracksdirect.com/thule-883.html

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks
Tom

i use Yakima. Nice and strong. I just got the towers, crossbars, and fairing. I have some foam blocks i set over the crossbars when loading my yak. For my canoe I just bought pipe insulation to put over the bars. No need for all the expensive saddles and such. I was using the factory rack until i got a good look at the plastice towers. Seemed like they could snap pretty easily when the wind catches my boat. Especially when those semi trucks blow by me on the interstate.

www.rackwarehouse.com had the best prices. got everything for less than $200.

I have all yakima roof rack components an dI love them. The lnk below shows my bone stock explorer when I got it, but withmy bike rack and also the yakima kayak rack on the passenger side. It is similar to the Thule, but the rear of mine has 4 rollers that help you lift the kayak up and roll it down the length of of the roof to rest on the front 'hands' of the kayak rack.

What kind of kayak is that? I was thinking about getting an RPM MAX (Dagger) its a little bigger than most but then i am 6'4 or an Acrobat +275 Deluxe
What one do you have?

its a Prijon Machine that I picked up on Ebay last may. I was looking for a Wavesport x.. or a Pyrahna Inazone 235, but found this one cheap.

specs:
length width vol. weight ****pit
7 ft 9 24.00 in 43.00 gal 33.00 lbs 36.00 by 18.00

Main use: playboat, rodeo

Prijon's take:
The MACHINE does everything you demand and things you never thought to ask. The secret of the MACHINE is its ultra-slippery hull combined with relatively narrow width. The mere 24" beam allows you to balance the boat on edge indefinitely without having to rely on a powerful brace. This frees up your paddle to initiate ultra fast cartwheels, blunts, splits, counterclock wheels and anything else in the vertical realm. The new, fully adjustable seat, thighbrace and outfitting system allow a snug fit, no matter what your dimensions. Rev up your paddling with The MACHINE! "

This is off topic but i was wondering has anyone transported a dirt bike in the back of their explorer?

sounds like a nice boat, i just have problems fitting in anything because i am 6'4! Im buying a boat to explore rivers, lakes and to take in the ocean so i really need a good all rounder. I also want to mess about in the surf a little so im not going to get a touring boat.
Nice boat....

Sounds like you're looking for a Necky dolphin. I like mine for surfing and touring. It's a Sit-on-top with a touring hull. The upturned nose keeps you from pearlingin the waves and rudder really helps when riding and staying on the wave. Turns on a dime, but has less initial stability, solid secondary stability with the touring hull. i bought a WS Pamlico 120 for fishing since it is really stable, has a huge ****pit, and it a few feet shorter, and I can use it when it's cold as it is a sit-inside. The Necky still works great as a fishing boat, just not as comfortable and I can't take my son out in it, plus it is a warm weather boat. If you want more of a ww boat, do a search for the Master TG. It's a new boat that is basically a ww boat with a drop skeg for tracking. It's still going to be slow, but it would be a great boat for surfing and getting between rapids on a river.

Just my 2 cents.

there is actually a thread around here not too long ago that covered the use of the hitch mounted motorcycle carriers...
