I just got back from my local stereo store and the owner said he ha stop carring Kenwood because of problems with the MASK equipped stereos. I really want a stereo with this feature and I was wondering if anyone has had a problem with the mask breaking or failing?

I HAD an eXcelon....but it's the 2nd one I've gone through in 9 months....I had one go bad within a month of buying it(face cut out) and the second one was having problems with the laser reading disks...so I got rid of it, and got a new Alpine...and I'm so much happier.

Hi KEbert,

I bought my Kenwood Radio With Mask-System 2 1/2 years ago.
Never had any problems with it!!

Had one from Panasonic before-bad buy!

all companies do have some defective products. but the excelon HU's are really great. i have done many installs with them. nobody had any problems with them so far. there are the occasional defective products, but so far so good. i don't wanna jinx myself.

I have the KDC-7007 in my truck now and I haven't had any problems with it. It was in the truck when I bought it about a year ago so I am assuming that it is about 2 years old and its still going strong. The only problem I have with it is that when I play CD-R's in it and turn the volume up a lot they sometimes skip but I am sure that with the new decks this problem has been fixed.

The MASK is a nice feature on these decks...I'm sure the guy must of been a bad installer, because
1) if you press to hard on the rails when fitting the deck in it will bend slightly and not let the deck down.
2) He has a bias against them..

I have owned 2 excelon 709's, a 711 and a 815 and you dont hear me complaining.

kenwoods are great

I work at circuit city and sell alot of car stereos, and I also own an 815 it's the best stereo i've ever owned. I rarley see kenwoods come in for service, i mostly see pioneers that are returned. Some one mentioned the installer being a cause, and that is true you have to be gentle with the face. I see a lot of people push the face back up by hand and that strips out the motor, you just have to use the button and you should have no problems.
