I decided since my 97 doesn't have the door buttons, and I only have a key for it, I would like to get a key fob to be able to remotely unlock/lock the doors. I saw a few videos online and see it is very easy to program them, and they are indeed very cheap online, but came across an issue, and knew if I came here you guys would know the answer ;)

I went to Amazon and searched for 1997 Ford Explorer Key FOB and this came up (and almost purchased) but then I saw under product details that it was for year range 98-07 http://www.amazon.com/Ford-Three-Button-Keyless-Remote/dp/B000KYUQ2S/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1420344920&vehicle=1997-54-663-------------0&sr=1-1-catcorr&ymm=1997%3Aford%3Aexplorer&keywords=1997+Ford+Explorer+key+fob#productDetails

which then made me come across this guy here..which is over twice as much and to me doesn't look as good, but states that it is for my year of rig. http://www.amazon.com/Ford-Three-Button-Keyless-Remote/dp/B000KYUQ2S/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1420344920&vehicle=1997-54-663-------------0&sr=1-1-catcorr&ymm=1997%3Aford%3Aexplorer&keywords=1997+Ford+Explorer+key+fob#productDetails

Now I know looks aren't that big of a deal cause its just a plastic key fob that sits in my pocket, so what...but I would prefer to have the first of the two if it would work, I just didn't want to pay for it, wait for it to ship just to find out it was the wrong one, so I figured I would come on here and ask you guys..

Thanks!

98+ do use a different keyfob, I know for a fact bc I've had a 97, 98 And now a 00. My 98 fob wouldn't program to my 97. Try chipkeys.com
