Keyless Entry factory code.. what is mine?

Just bought my 16 year old daughter a 2002 Explorer. We only have one key and fob. The owners manual says I can program the keypad for entry, but I must first know the factory code given to the first owner. I don't have that, being the second owner. How do I reprogram the keyless entry?

Dear GOD, don't go to the dealer for a key or a fob.............. Check ebay, or have your daughter do it. I paid 18 bucks pluss 3 dollars shipping for three keys for my 'o2. The local hardware store cut them for free 'cuz I had my own blanks. Fob's were a little more at 12 dollars each. Programmed them myself from instructions here on the forum that matched the instructions sent to me by the guy that sold me the fobs. Same with programming the keys...

This is good information except for the location of the unit. In my 2005 (I would think that the '02 is the same) the unit is located on the right (passenger) side behind the panel and below the rear seat selt belt adjustment. If you partially remove the upper panel and pull back the lower panel, this will give you enough room (using a flashlight) to see the code.
There are two modules in there, look at the lower one. I just did this yesterday. The "adding" of a code is published in the thread and is in the owner manual.

I hope I'm not leading you on a goose chase in your '02.

This is good information except for the location of the unit. In my 2005 (I would think that the '02 is the same) the unit is located on the right (passenger) side behind the panel and below the rear seat selt belt adjustment.

The CSM is also on the passenger side in the 2002 4-door Explorers.
