Does anybody know of a company that makes a overlay for the keyless entry pad for any ford Vehicle? mine is basically shot, its all worn off and I just want it to look good, and I was hoping to find a sticker, or overlay to put over the old worn off number, but I cannot seem to find anything at all. I really don't want to replace the whole thing just to get it to look better, but If that is the only option, I may do it.

Thanks for any help, Harold.

Don't know about a decal kit, but I had the same problem. One day at the bone yard, while looking around for another part, ran across an X with the door panel off. Looked at how hard it was to remove the pad and found it's a 3-5 minute job with the panel off. One plug and a clip. too easy. Got it and put it on and I like it better because mine was body color and this one's a black graphite. BTW paid $6 for the part.

Looks like I will be hunting for one, I am just surprised that such a thing doesn't exist. It is a simple solution really, that somebody could easily make.

Mine became brittle and broke apart. Instead of putting on the same type I got one from a third gen. The third gen has push buttons instead of a pad with this setup I no longer need to worry about it breaking up again.

The third gen plug is the same so you do not need to cut any wires at all

Nice.

Any pictures of yours?

I second that, lol. That may be a real nice upgrade if I can fine a good looking one in the Junk Yard.

Does it light up? That may be the one thing I don't like about the Gen II 's pad.

I assume you meant to say Gen III, but I would think it would light up, otherwise it would be useless at night.

My Gen II key pad never lit up and the replacement one does not either. And you're right, was sort of useless at night. Did it by feel. You mean I've had a lighting problem all this time?

My 95 XLT keypad did light up before it crapped out. I replaced it with a brand new aftermarket one I bought on Ebay. The new replacement also lights up. Been working fine and still looks good after 3 years.

all 5 of my current trucks have the key pad and they all light up. you must have some sort of lighting problem. maybe a broken wire? maybe a bulb?

I know mine has never lit up, I have seen the thread on replacing the bulb, but it is a lot of work, I'm just hoping to find one that does light up and then I'll be happy, lol.

Guess I'm headed back to the bone yard with the same hope, sometime.

As koda200 indicated you may have a wiring problem since your replacement keypad doesn't light either.
Give a look at this link and scroll down to post # 4, it shows the wiring diagram for a 2002 XLT, I believe the colors should be the same on your 96.

Two of those 6 connector wires, light blue and black, are to power the light on the keypad. Light Blue is the power source and the Black is ground.

Check the driver door jamb boot for broken wires as well as at the keypad connector. When the keypad functions properly, by touching any number it should light.

As I think about it, besides a possible broken wire, there must be some kind of relay involved as the light should turn ON when you press any button, but it will automatically go OFF again after 10-15 seconds. Your interior lights should also come ON when you touch the key pad. Do they?

Yes sir, they do.

Yes sir, they do.

If they do, then your issue must be the wire that supposed to supply power to the light bulb in the key pad. If you can figure out which wire that is (see wiring diagram) unplug the keypad and try supplying 12V power (and a ground of course) to it and see of the key pad lights up. it should.

The diagram states that the light blue and black wires supply power to the key pad. Hopefully black is ground, but who knows. Soon as it warms up looks like I've got a project brewing  Also gonna R&R sway bar bushings.
Thanks for your input on this Koda!

Also curious if you have any pictures of the 3rd Gen keypad?
