Keyless entry pad code location

I noticed that the plastic piece above the bottom panel has been loosened and moved outwards. How do you remove that one before you pry open the larger bottom one.
I just purchased a 02 XLT and just about ready to go out and start looking for that number.
Thanks,
Ken

Thanks Welli !!..

It works For Me!!..
Explorer 2003 XLT

Hey guys, just take care when pulling out plastic faces, some clips can be broken.

no need to taking all apart, just move little beat seat belt mechanism (upper face) enough to let down face move away from computers, enough to see the numbers.

when assembled back, eventually all faces will fit on place. take several trys dont use brute force to put all back on, its a lady, and need to be everything aligned to clip on back.

thanks a lot,
i save at least 50 dollars!.

try to identify if some fuses were blown out first, later, try to charge your battery to start some other electrical tests..
dead batery wont help on fuses tests unless you remove each fuse and check "continuity" between legs

then, check for fuses..
check fuses box batery side
besides fuse box inside, under dash.

there are one big fuse (some sort of 60 amps or so) for starter stuff...

I can see the box but can't get the lower panel out far enough to see anything but some alphanumeric part numbers Broke my little inspection mirror now I will have to try again later

One refinement on the upper trim piece. If you pull off the rubber seal you will see 2 metal clips holding the the trim in place. With a small screw driver they swivel up relasing the interior trim piece. Once you pull the seat belt bolt you can pull the lower panel out but not far enough for me .

I just got this to work last night; I didn't have to take any panels off, I just slid the seatbelt mount up to where that piece of trim would come off. I pulled the plastic out just enough to be able to read the numbers. This is a life-saver; I really like having the coded entry. Whenever I fish, I usually just leave my keys in the car, and this is safer than using my Hide-A-Key. Thanks for the post!

ya i should figure mine out. I bought it new and the salesman told us about it. I might have wrote it down. Would not hurt to know the code just in case.

thanks alot Welli for your great post!!!!

I'm looking for the keyless entry code for my 98 Explorer XLT. HELP?

You might try posting in the '98 section. The location may have changed from the
'98 to the 02-05 series or gen III.

Good luck!

I already posted a link above for Rhonda... :)

You're welcome!

All of the info on how to program is in the owners manual, it was nice that everything was in the thread though...

If you're missing your manual (or want one on the computer- easier to search for stuff), you can download one here:

06 mounty module

is the 06 mountaineer module still in the same location?

Not from my posts above. Go to page 1 of this thread.

awesome.. thatll save me a ton of time looking for it.. i was gnna start under the dash :) so glad I found ths site tons of info!! and all you guys that take your time to help others make it possible so thanks.. if only Ford themselves and more of their dealers cared half as much, they could be the #1 automaker easily. BTW i had a new toyota few years back (still #1 i think) and that whole company and their dealers can all stick it.. cant wait to watch them fall!

Thank you!

Nicely done. This was very helpful! You are the best.

Did you follow the instructions in your Owner's Manual? When you punch in the factory default code, you should have heard something. Did you hear anything after you entered the code?
