keyless entry while running?

Can you go into more detail please. I dont really know much about relays. Where is a good place to get one?

I just got an NC (normally closed) relay from NAPA and a wiring harness to go with it. The relay has 5 pins on it. I can't remember the numbers that go with the pins, but the diagram is on the side of the relay so you should be able to figure it out from there.

One pin is the power input for the coil in the relay. Connect this to the wire that come from your remote start that only has power when the remote has been used to crank the truck.

One pin is the output for the coil. Wire it to ground.

One pin is the input for the switch in the relay. Cut your ignition power wire to the anti-theft module and connect it to that pin.

There are two pins that are the outputs for the switch. One is normaly closed (closed when the coil does not have power) and that is the one you wire back to the wire you cut to the anti-theft module. The other one is normally open (only closes when the coil has power) and you just tape that one off and don't connect anything.

How it works...
When you crank your truck with the key the relay coil does not have power so the anti-theft module gets power like it should.
When you use your remote start it powers the coil in the relay and opens the switch. That cuts the ignition power wire so the anti-theft module does not know the truck is running. When you put your key in the ignition and the remote start cuts off, the relay loses power and the switch closes again and everything goes back to normal.

How about one of those brilliant electrical guys helps us that dont have remote start. All I want to do is be able to use my factory remote while the truck is running. I would imagine that it is some relay type setup that cuts power to the remote unlocker when the truck is running, but thats just a guess.

Someone please help!

Thanks
Chris

Cut the ignition power wire going to the module.

I would if I had any idea where and what module it was.

Would it really be that easy?

My python remote starter has kind of a weird quirk to it: If I lock the truck with the python remote, then unlock it with the keypad, the truck wont start until the unlock button on the python remote has been pressed. On the other hand, if I lock the truck with the keypad, then unlock it with the python remote, when the door is opened, the alarm goes off.

The solution: When I lock it one way, unlock it the same way ;)

That'd be the only way unless you want to rig some sort of relay and timer setup. Only problem is if your alarm goes off you won't be able to turn it off by turning the ignition on.

No offense, but having your remote work with the engine running, unless you're using a remote start, is only gonna be a bad thing. I cannot think of any reason that you would need the remote to work anyways.

I think I see the light - I dont think I will be "tweeking" this at this time.

After all the car is nice and warm when I get it using the key is not a bad thing.

I'd like to use the kaypad, but I don't have the code! When I bought it (used) the dealer didn't know the code

That dealer is an idiot.

The code is on the module inside the jack compartment.

Yeah, it's funny that within a few days of being a member of this forum, I had that problem figured out, but the dealer had no idea how to solve it.

Oh well...

Bulldog Remote Starter and Factory Keyless

I may try the fix listed in here as well.
My problem is when the vehicle is running the factory keyless system shuts off. As a result I cant turn the remote starter off with the factory remote.

Furthermore, one has to press the lock button 3 times to activate the remote starter. My problem with this is, I would be annoying my neighbours early in the morning when using the factory remote as it sounds the horn after the second and third presses of the lock button.

Any ideas for the honking too?

You can pull the relay out for the horn in the power box in the hood.. It should be number 2.. Or you can cut the wire off the RAP module that sends a signal to the horn.. Dunno what wire it is but I'm sure with some probing, you could find out.. The factory remote will be useless once the engine is turned on, its one of Ford's great ideas. Dunno why.. Kind of makes the pit stop function useless.

Not at all. I just use the factory remote with mine. If I want the pit stop to work I just lock the X (buy the button on the door) 3 times before I turn off the key.

this would disable the panic honk feature as well?

question...

Has anyone ever left the car running with the doors unlocked only to come back and find it had locked itself? I did once and it scared me cause the keyless entry code didn't work at first.

SGR1600- as i also have a '97 I have a suggestion if you haven't found your default code already. Pop open the gate in the back and open up the cubby where the jack is kept. Pull the jack and tire iron and whatever else out. Tucked up in there is the mechanism that operates your keyless entry system. The sticker with the default code is on this mechanism. You might have to pull the plastic back just a tad and it wouldn't be a bad idea to have a flashlight handy, but once my friend learned where it was stashed it took all of about 90 seconds to get the number. Once you have that of course you can program one of your own, and it still retains the default code for an emergency.
