Schipwrk, this is the procedure in my FSM.

1. Enter the permanent 5 digit code.
2. Within 5 seconds, press the 1/2 button.
3. Within 5 seconds, enter a new 5 digit code. Do not let
more than 5 seconds elapse between entering each
of the new digits.

That should do it. Good luck.

If your wife knows your permanant code, there is nothing you can easily do to change that. You can't just reprogram your permanant code. You have to replace the computer that controls it (whatever it is called) or change the jumpers in it, which isn't an easy process.

Robb is correct. Unfortunatly, if someone else knows the permanent code, they can also use it to reprogram the opening code. But if they don't know the procedure, they won't be able to change the code.:D

Well, the computer will remember the permanent code nomatterwhat. So if you program another code, the computer will accept the permanent code AND the code you programmed.

Thanks you guy's...this is a very helpful site, with helpful people....I'll try this in the morning...

BTW - Im sure this has been discussed many times, but if you dont know the code to the door, where can you find it? Wheel well? Under the spare? In the Jack Compartment? (Yes I know my 91 doesnt have the pad, but our 95 EB did, and we NEVER knew the code)

The code numbers are on the module (I think it's called the RAPS) in the jack compartment on the driver's side. It's in the upper right side of the compartment, and you may have to use a small mirror and a flashlight to be able to see the numbers.

Edit: It's a RAPS module instead of GEM. Thanks Robert.

The GEM is just ahead of the rear washer tank. and the code is on the side. Its been highly discussed, so SEARCH!! i know, i hate that response too:rolleyes:

Why are you worried about your wife knowing the code for? I can see an ex-wife or girlfriend but not your wife.

The GEM (Generic Electronics Module) is behind the radio, attached to the inside of the firewall. The RAPS (Remote Anti-theft Personality System) module is in your rear jack compartment. The RAPS will have your original 5-digit code on it.
