What is so different between the '97 & '98 filter housings/MAF that make a KKM fit on one but not the other? Bolt Pattern or more?

Sorry since this is off topic, but i have a 97 4.0 SOHC and im wondering if you like your KKM?? because i dont know if i should buy KKM, Mac, or K&N
Like i said sorry about off-topicness

i wish i could answer but i bought one slightly used and it's for '98+ SOHC and 97+ OHV 4.0L engines. Problem is that i have a '96 OHV and supposedly it does not fit. i'm trying to find out y.

Everyone on the Forum swears by them. They're 1/3 of the cost of the K&N & 1/2 of a Mac but give the same performance gain. KKM is not C.A.R.B certified like K&N (not sure of Mac), but being in PA you don't have to worry about that (do you?). Even still, the install takes minutes so come inspection time you can always switch back.

Tell ya what...if i find out that i absolutely cannot install it in my X, and you're interested in it, i'll work something out with ya. PM if so...

They are all 4 bolt. But I believe the MAF sizes are different. I love my KKM, but don't enjoy having to clean it. It's worth it though. I'm not sure why it would fit an OHV and SOHC of different years. The adapter plate that mounts up to the MAFS is machined to fit it exactly, so I don't think there is much room for putting them on different years except for it they use the same MAFS.

someone mentioned that just the mounting bracket is different, but if that's the case why wouldnt kkm just add another bracket and call it a '95+ kit. I think i'm screwed...off to the FSTW board!

They have a million different versions for different years, I don't remember all the exact differences between them are.

FYI certain counties in PA emmisions test but like someone stated, doesn't take long to switch ;)
