Not to get gregarious or anything, but the KKM has been an awesome addition to my X. Definitley feel more power, and a slightly deeper sound from the eingine. Worth every penny.
I'm shocked the guys at Kurtz Kustoms haven't linked this post to their website with all the good press!

The only thing I noticed with my KKM is a deep sound at WOT and a decrease in gas mileage. With all do respect I dont think that anyone can feel better throttle response from a conical air filter. Later

I beg to differ, when I installed my KKM, I picked up about 2 mpg. As far as throttle response, I feel that is rather subjective.

You are the first i have heard of with a negative mileage report after the installation. Could it be that your foot got heayer too?

Is it possible you installed it wrong? I don't know how you could've gotten a decrease in anything! Maybe you should check your install again to make sure you got it right. Sounds like you did something wrong to me. Mine was the best improvement performance wise that I have made on the truck!

Nah, I dont have a heavy foot. I try to get the most mileage out of a tank of gas with these outrageous gas prices ya know. And mileage has gone down, remember cold air = more horse power and the only thing the kkm is sucking in is HOT air. I will be putting back the stock setup very shorty and the KKM will be up for sale. Yeah, its put on correctly. I am insulted that you think that I could have installed it incorrectly. j/k

Please give us your theory as to your poor mileage report with the KKM.

How many tanks of fuel have you run through it?

Also, and not to imply anything, BUT, did you reset your computer?

Thanks....

I have had the KKM for a while now. Yes, I did reset the computer. I just dont see how sucking in hot air will help increase your gas mileage. If you have a cold air setup, yes I can see how it would help. Also, I dont think the location of the kkm helps either. This is for the 91-94 explorers. The 95+ have a much better location.

I speak only for my 99.

Here in Florida it is indeed a very rare day we have any cold air to do anything with….

I am extremely happy with the results of the KKM.

After installing a KKM on my 01 Sport, I noticed a very marked increase in the throttle response. I am uncertain of the mileage (increase/decrease) since I have not run a full tank yet.

Increasing your airflow should always give an increase in your throttle response over the stock filter box. You're the first person I've heard mention that they didn't get an improvement from a KKM kit. No need to be insulted, everyone has their own opinion regrading these types of modifications. I definately feel mine was worth the money.

I agree with kingfish and others who said a noticeable increase in throttle performance, quicker acceleration with the KKM in my '00 XLT. With my otherwise stock set up, my gas mileage went from 15 MPG/City before to 15.8 MPG/City after (a 2.37% gain), nothing significant but I think if I have a new high performance exhaust system, the mileage gain would be more.

It's still under the wife's jurisdiction so I can modify it yet!!!

KKM to K&N

Does anybody know if there is much of a difference if you install a KKM...or if you have the Conical Type airbox, take off the lower portion....and just clamp on the K&N cone filter to the upper portion????

there is a seat of the pants feel and a growl at wot and a slight improvement in mileage.... also kkm is not emissions legal
