Knock Sensor Question

I am new to this site. My 4.0l OHV engine pings guite a bit while running at hi way speeds 70-80 MPH. Does this engine have a knock sensor? IIf so - Shouldn't that prevent knock? Any insight would be helpful - Mike

Im not sure about the 99 OHV engine, but my 97 OHV does not have a knock sensor. The 4.0 SOHC engine does have a knock sensor.

I don't think any of the OHV Explorers ever had knock sensors. SOHC trucks did/do though.
