I recently put another motor in my explorer after I had a water pump fail and ruin my other one(after changing all of the cassettes lol).

After first crank I get a knocking noise that goes up with rpms. I used a stethoscope and its coming from the driver side of the plastic intake. You can actually feel it through the intake also. I put the stethoscope to the valve cover thinking it must be underneath there somewhere and nothing.

Any ideas? Doesn't make any sense, video added for sound

Not having listened to the video, it sounds like a bad follower.

These engines don't have lifters, it's an item that most closely resembles a rocker arm.

Can you tell me how to check it? Can't seem to find the part online either. What all needs to be removed to get to them also?

Thanks for your assistance

Here's two items to look at. Valve covers have to come out to view them. Watched the video, almost sounds like an exhaust leak. But sounds on video can be difficult.

Ok I'm guessing they will just feel loose?

It might have an exhaust leak too as some smoke is coming from the pipes, but the sound is coming from the driver side intake area and I can feel the knock through the top of the intake where it says 4.0 SOHC.
