hi, noticed when driving over even the smallest bumps there is a knocking noise which sounds like its coming from below where the pedals are, sounds slightly like something banging against the body. crawled underneath and gave the driveshafts a shake and there is some side to side play in both front driveshafts, is this normal, also what else could cause this noise?

thanks in advance for any help

Did you check your swaybar end links?

They can look fine, but still have the top (or bottom) nuts broken off.

Give 'em a shake and see if they move.

Also the sway bar bushings could be worn, they may look fine from a visual inspection but when I took the brackets off the driver side bushing had a small hole bout the size of a finger worn through, replaced both of them and so far the "clunk" is gone

You could rule out the driveshaft. If its making noise on the smallest bumps then it will sure virbate at higher speeds.

Check your exhaust or any heat shields

Checked the swaybar links, they seem fine, had another play with the driveshaft, noticed that the inner CV boot has a cable tie round it and there is old grease splattered all around it. gave it a good up a down shake and there is some play there, where it goes into the solid shaft to the diff. When i am at crawling speed i can hear it clunking without even going over bumps. don't think it is anything on the suspension because i can push up and down on the front wing working the suspension and theres no noise there.
