Hi now i have a problem on my 1999 explorer (UK SPEC) had a knocking type rattle from the front checked ball joints had lift in the O/S and N/S bottom ones not much but enough to produce a knock on further inspection the driver side top ball joint was goosed 'passenger side top joint was not to bad.
Anyways i have fitted 2 new lower ball joints and a new top ball joint the one with the 2 slotted holes and right angled corner with the slot and fitted a grease nipple in the other top ball joint There i no play at all in the shocker bushes .
So my problem is, it is still knocking but not as bad and only on certain bumps the drop links look ok and i can not feel any movement .in those but can they be worn out but only show up under load.
Please has anyone any ideas thanks

Sorted now it was the the drop links they looked solid but bolt rusted to about half it's were it passed through the bottom rubbers and all rubbers gone harder than the steel

which end links did you use? I used the quicksteer ones, but learned my lesson as they failed in 30k... so far the energy suspension ones are on a good track!

^ Swshawaii's solution still seems the best to me, though considering my climate, I'd also lather silicone paste all over the bolts, under the spacer sleeve to retard rust there. That was how my first, factory end links failed too... then next set was aftermarket from autozone and the low quality rubber bushings went flat, but I still opted to use an angle grinder to get them off, was just easier:
