Does anyone make leds for second gens? More specially my 96. Or is there a write up on how to insert your own leds?

Buy LED 3157 bulbs, and put them in like a regular lightbulb.
Pretty easy, just make sure to buy quality ones.

I don't think it's that simple. Isn't it a requirement to splice in an appropriate resistor so you don't blow a fuse?

Not at all. You wouldn't blow a fuse if you have a resistor or don't.
What the resistor does, in simple terms, is put a load in the way to make it seem like there's a regular, filament bulb there. So if the vehicle has a warning module about burnt out light bulbs, it doesn't go off.

All automotive LEDs are 12V, or have an inline resistor built into them.
As long as a quality LED bulb is purchased, there shouldn't be any problems.

I have LED's in mine back up lights and turn signals up front and back and just had to change the flasher relay under the dash by the OBD II port. It flashes fine then and not fast at all. I def wish they had aftermarket LED taillights for our Explorers though. It seems that every other SUV or truck has some made for them except ours.
