Looks like I could change the stock speaker mounts to fit a 6 by 9 speaker.

The speaker i was looking at has great sound qualaty opposed to the 5 by 8 speaker of the same brand.

5 by 8 has an RMS of 55
6 by 9 has an RMS of 100

I dont know much about audio so i was wonder if someone cold help me out?

The RMS is the amout on power the speaker uses at normal volume? If i go with the 6 by 9 does that mean i will have to crank the volume up on my stock head unit just to get sound to come out. will this cause the head to heat up more than normal?

What other complication will i be looking at?

or, does any one know of 5 by 8 speaker that has super awsome sound qualaty?

Just make sure its a 2 or 3 way speaker, but MAKE SURE the depth is good for the 6x9's they might be too deep to fit...i learned that the hard way lol

so you tried 6 by 9 but they were to deep. ok got to make sure its not deeper than 2.5

Yea, this was when I had my taurus, they told me at BestBuy the front doors were 6x9's which I didnt believe but i bought them anyways, and i was right, it was actually a 5x7, and the 6x9 wouldnt even go in all the way with the big magnet on it...

Your stock headunit wouldnt even be able to fully power the 55w RMS ones, let alone the 6x9's youd still have GREAT sound with either one, im just sayin.
If you plan on upgrading your headunit, or adding a 4-channel amp soon, id go ahead with the 6x9's.

For the most part, either way, your volume should still be about the same levels for sound...

by upgrading your speakers will not effect the volume on your HU as you asked earlier... its just your speakers will be able to handle more power then the STOCK HU can produce, which means...

when you go to upgrade your HU, your speakers will easily handle the increased wattage from an AFTERMARKET HU, and also gives you room to expand futher, by adding a 4 channel AMP to maximize your sound quality and potential of the speakers rated power...

*** when i started upgrading my audio, my first MODS were...

Dual Audio 200w HU ( 50w X 4 speakers )

Kenwood 220w 5x7'' ( 3 way ) door speakers

and those alone was a major difference in my sound quality...

If change my HU, will i lose my 6 CD changer and the controls from the rear seat? I assume i will.

How many channels is the stock HU?

can you take a picture of your center console ?????

you would lose the CD changer, but you can use an IPOD with a new HU...

im not sure what your askin about your stock HU channels ???? are you asking about the 4 Channel amp i was talking about ????

stock HU is 2 channels one for the sub portion of the speakers and one for the tweeters

basicly i was asking how good the HU i have now is.

i like my 6 CD and the rear seat controls. i dont like the look of after market HUs and most of them are ****y quality. and i dont want to pay 200+ for a new head unit.

my speakers still work but they buzz.
if i am going to replace them i would like to get some thing better than stock. i figured a bigger speaker would be better. the 6 by 9 i was looking at have 2 tweeters. bigger speaker more bass 2 tweeters better sound quality

i was wondering if my stock head unit could power 100 rms with out burning up
