Like many others, I have the Firestone ATX's on my 92. My local Firestone dealership will be replacing them in the next few days. I want to go larger, but I am not sure how big I can go w/o rubbing. It is all stock. Also, what diameter are these wheels? They are the stock 92's.

Thanks.

tons of discussion on this...

And when it comes right down to it. And seein' as your asking, and yer itchin to go a bit bigger...
GO WITH 31X10.5-15 TIRES on your factory 15x7" rims.
Or.... You could spend hours searching the archives here regarding tire size on stock Explorers and many restless nights deliberating this.... then GO WITH 31X10.5-15 TIRES on your factory 15x7" rims.

31's will fit some explorers.. have them test fit them.. If they dont' fit go with the 30x9.50.. the 31's didn't even come close to fitting on our 1992 XLT when it has 140k miles on it.. (springs were sagging too much)..

What does 31x10.5 and 30x9.5 equal using the same numbering system that is currently on our tires. The system that reads 235/75 R 15

31x10.5-15 is easier to understand than metric sizing...

on the non metric sizing-
31 is diameter, 10.5 is width, 15 is rim size.

On metric sizing- ex. 235/75 15...
235 is the mm height of the tire from the bead to the tread.
75 is the percentage ratio of the width to height on a cross section of the tire.
15 is the rim size.
