03 fliptrac $700 daily driver (summer of fun with 4 sport tracs)

I'm glad to get to see you being able to finally use the manual tensioners. I know you know that they work well.

Thank you! I had to order another set for the toolbox hahahaha I’m doing a 05 engine next week
Now they are $19 each they keep dropping the price in half I think I paid $300 for the first one in the rzr years ago!! (Like 2015)

I believe these to be oem 235k miles this was the best looking one. They all have good color but the electrode is basically Mia and the gap is double

I've reminded my wife a few times to order these. Once the Explorer world are 'believers', they might be hard to get or go up in price. I would purchase $500 worth if I thought that they might start going back up. They fit the 2000's Mustangs too !

I just noticed that they are manufactured from t-6061 aluminum instead of steel. Would this be a good or bad thing?

Tools used for changing tensioners

Having truck on lift is good for spotting issues/ future repairs. The body mounts on this trac are wasted. A 2” body
Lift and new mounts maybe on order (if she runs good)

I’ve seen trucks twice this age and double these miles w better mounts?

I just love how the exhaust hangs down below everything else on this year of trac not to self do not try to clear rocks down center of chassis

Spacers were fitted to rear wheels
Truck was lowered
New plug wires installed new power steering fluid 3’gallons of coolant and 3 quarts of Mercon v in the trans shop
Cleaned and done for the night

Hopefully she runs good today!

Yeah. Quite a bit of miles on the plugs. I wonder how many times each one fired?
I found some stainless steel RZR tensioners. I'm not wanting to be the "guinea pig" for the aluminum ones.

Mine are stainless but you know it’s “Chineseum” stainless I do not see why aluminum would not work?

No go for me this engine is no good
Its
Coming out will be 5.0 sooner than expected

@swshawaii I think it may look that way because the little fine tip is burnt away..

@allmyEXes
Easy for Jamie to compare model numbers on the plugs.

SUCKS

What's wrong with the engine?

With water in the engine I discovered the head gaskets are toast
Crank the starter and huge bubbles in the coolant over flow tons of pressure
Buildup in the radiator
Folks we blew the engine

The drivetrain is almost out already

It ran okay for me when I put it on the trailer and into the shop because there was no water in it. So I assumed it had lived through the overheat event. I was wrong
As soon as it had water in the cooling system it was in the block, starter was struggling because it’s pushing water

Fool me once

It’s ok this truck worth a lot more with an 8 also will be able to trust it lol lol

Exactly a 03 trac w 235k miles
Looks clean no rust no dents

But 235k miles on factory 4.0 and trans
Worth about $1500-2500 max and good luck selling it with that, somebody would buy it and maybe go one summer maybe a whole year.

Instead now it will be getting a low mile v8 conversion with lots of little upgrades along the way
Now it’s worth $8500-12000 and I can trust it on long trips.. will likely outlast me and because it’s now a v8 trac I can justify a superlift, body mounts, and more $$$$ more parts tossed at it.
If I had another low mile sohc it could go in here but I don’t! Low mile sohcs are even getting harder to find

Drivetrain will be out in a couple of hours

I was wondering if it was salvageable. Dang! Y'all are fast on the extraction.
