my front axle on my 98 sport is leaking from the gasket. is there a way i can fill up the front axle as a quick fix until i get the time to do the job right? also my Chilton's manual said that i need a different lub if i have the Traction-Lok limited slip, how can i tell what kind of front axle it is? Thanks

I wouldn't let it go too long leaking.

Front diffy have no traction device from the factory. Is it leaking from the diffy cover or from the back near the pinion seal? More than likely the pinon seal, they are very common.

This is true-- check carefully because if the pinion seal is leaking, the fluid will run down the diff and look like it's coming out of the cover seal.

Gear lube 'creeps' long distances and collects all sorts of dirt, etc. What looks like a major mess is usually a small leak (unless you see drips under the truck). Try cleaning everything off to find the source and top off the diff (to the bottom of the fill hole - driver's side). If the cover plate is leaking, you'll need to drop the front axle as there's no way to remove the cover with the axle in place. Believe it or not, replacing the pinion seal is easier.

alright it sounds like the pinion seal, because the fluid is coming all the from the back at the pinion seal and travels to the front. it is puddling under the truck when it sits overnight, so it is leaking pritty good. if i keep it in 2w can i get a week of driving out of it before it gets fixed?
