I have a 96 explorer and I want to build it up. But I can't find a lift for it. People have said that no lifts are made for the 96's that it is impossible. Why is this? How could it be impossible? I am confused!!!

Daniel,
If you do a search on this subject, you will find that you still have options, even though there have been no real kits released yet. Your best bet is to go with the torsion twist with either the Warrior shackles or the OME springs out back. There is an excellent article on how to do the torsion twist on this site. Also, you can try to modify a lift for a Ranger. People on this site have successfully modified both bofy and suspension lifts to fit their post 95 Explorers. Also, there si supposedly a Superlift 4 inch suspension kit coming out soon. Trailmaster has been baiting us along with a lift for just about forever it seems, but they still haven't produced anything tangible. If you want more info on any of these options, try searching the archives. Good luck.

At SEMA this year, there were a whole bunch of Sport Tracs with the Superlift kit, so that would seem to indicate that it is near completion. I have heard anywhere from a month from now to early next year for its release date.

All of this sounds great. But i'm a 17 year old senior in highschool saving up lunch money and allowance, so how much money are we talking? (i've got my fingers crossed)

Daniel,
Well I know that the Trailmaster Ranger lift kit cost me $1300.00, and that didn't include the modifications to get it to work on my 97. The Superlift 4" Ranger kit costs $2100.00, so I don't think that the Explorer kit will be any less than that. If you go with a torsion bar twist and OME springs that will cost you around $450.00. Keep saving your money.

When is the Superlift going to come out? Or is this not know?

The Superlift kit will be for '98 and up Explorers. It is not for the '95-'97s. The rear of the torsion bar mounts are welded on the '95-'97s so it would require some welding to modify it. In '98 Ford changed the mounts to a bolt on design so the Superlift shouldn't require any welding. You can go with a torsion bar lift with Warrior rear shackles for less than $50. I used generic shackles from Autozone for $11 instead of the Warriors. I did have a piece of plate steel welded between them to strengthen them though.
