lift gate questions

I have a 2000 sport and finding a replacement lift gate is proving to be near impossible. Is it possible to use an earlier gate and if so how much work is involved?

for one thing, i believe the 2dr and 4dr lift-gates are the same. i have a spare lift-gate that came off a 2000 Sport, but i doubt you'd want to pay the shipping on it. i think '97-'00 are the same on the Sports (might be '98-'00).

Yes they are the same. I appreciate the offer but you are right, shipping alone us $300-$400 to Pennsylvania. In just looking in to my options.

have you tried your local ebay auto parts section? there's always quite a few Explorers being parted out down here.

98-01, and 98-03 sports are the same. the difference between them, and earlier years are, the curve at the bottom, the shape around the tail lights, and the third brake light. the newer sports (01-03) dont have the holes for the wiper motor, and have extra cladding on them that can be popped off, but you will have holes in it from the clips that holds that on.
