Welcome to the site. You can do a Torsion bar twist & shackles and give you in the area of 1.5" to 2" of suspension lift or you can order a PA-853 body lift for the Ford Ranger and manufacture your own bumper brackets, there is a link on this site with the cad drawing on the dimensions you need them cut into. I do a TT/Shackles if your looking for just a lil of lift for a set of 31" tires or a combination of both to run 33s or higher. If you have any question, please don't hesitate to ask on this site. You'll notice this site is quite resourceful.

I saw a 4 inch lift advertised for only about 500 dollars yesterday. I don't know if it includes new springs or shocks but they did say it was a 4 inch suspension lift.

blee forgot to mention that you can get the superlift 4" lift kit for around $1500

Yeah I did forget it.. Generally most people aren't interested in it cause of the cost attributed with it. The lift kit actually drops your cross member clearance by use of a bracket from what I remember.. I would just do a TT/Shackles & 3" body lift.. The only drawback is that the CV axles will wear faster than usual.
